King Falls AM, Come Back!

Friday Review: King Falls AM (Audio Drama/Comedy Podcast)

Posted on 24 June 20228 November 2022 By earlp
Part podcast, comedy, drama, and life in a small town radio station – Why have you NOT listened to King Falls AM already?

I am a HUGE fan of this radio drama/comedy/horror/slice of life at a small town radio station and cannot recommend it highly enough to everyone I talk to.

Go to their home page – HERE – or see the AUDIOBOOM website – HERE
Links to the first 3 episodes are at the bottom of this review.

The episodes are short and to the point (and get longer as the action ramps up), the observations on AM radio station life are perfect, the humour is spot on, the ads in the first season are hilarious (sadly they didn’t continue the ads all the way through for the rest of the show), and the acting is 100% spot on!

The two main characters are Sammy and Ben – ‘Shotgun’ Sammy a new host for King Falls AM late night/early morning talkback, and his producer slash sidekick and co-host Ben are the BEST and most fleshed out characters I have come across.

Written by a small tight nit team who also do most of the acting too, this series is fantastic, and believe me when I say I was yelling at my car radio when something very, very dramatic happens around the mid 50’s episodes. But it kept me listening.

And that is the secret to this show – it teases, and shows the real life of a radio station with sponsors, station ownership, small town ‘personalities’ and people trying to pressure things to be done, or not done. Outside Broadcasts, station issues, connections and late night talkback radio (a personal link there for me), and the network of people who are very close to your local station.

But I don’t want to give any of the story away, so think of King Falls AM (660 on the radio dial) as a cross between the X-Files, WKRP in Cincinnati, and a HP Lovecraft/Ancient Aliens and the Twilight Zone love child – yes it’s that weird! It’s funny, suspenseful and has honesty and a heart to it that is incredible and enjoyable.

Soundtrack by Cameron Chambers

The soundtrack by Cameron Chambers is top notch too, comparable to most big budget movie soundtracks – and I highly recommend buying it on i-tunes – HERE.

The fans of the show and myself are all (rightly so) disappointed that the series has finished without resolving major plot points, but it has left us hungering for more – and that is a good thing.

If the writers of the show read this – please, please bring back KAFM – We love it to bits!

Do yourself a massive favour and listen to the first 3 episodes, if you are not hooked, then have you never worked at an AM station?

Have a listen to those first 3 episodes through Boomtown – Episode 1 – Episode 2 – Episode 3 – Enjoy!

Come back King Falls AM! We miss you!
