It’s no secret that I like weird music – the weirder – the better, and I have very eclectic tastes. From opera through to J-Pop and K-Pop. BUT… One of my favourite bands of the past 10 years is ‘New Jacobian Club’ – a theatrical punk/gothic/steampunk performance band from Canada (told you I like weird stuff) – their official site is – HERE

Their latest blog post – is actually a repost from a previous incarnation of their blog – is all about musicians and fans (and seriously could 100% apply to our industry too). Why? Read the full post by Xerxes Horde – HERE
Here’s just one quote: “…From that time onwards I have always tried to stop and talk or even sit down with as many of our good friends and fans as possible, I will happily sign anything, giving away fistfuls of guitar pics and stickers…. we aren’t world renowned entertainers, but we aren’t the slightest bit ungrateful.”
I totally agree (from my days of DJing and hosting gigs) that while you might want to unwind from your show and performance, you should instead rub shoulders with your fans. Don’t be a jerk and jump in your car and drive off – talk to them and connect – you’ll get raving fans as a result.
So next time you’ve wound up that Outside Broadcast, take a moment to gather your thoughts, then reach out to those who have made the effort to be there and support you.
Same disclaimer as usual – I am not getting paid or given any compensation at all to plug the NJC – but I do highly recommend you give them a listen to (there are 5 free tracks on their website) – they are awesome! Buy their CD’s – the albums are an experience!
