Is Your Station Promotion Possessed? 15 Ways To Fix That!

Posted on 12 July 20228 November 2022 By earlp

It is a serious question, with a possibility of a huge amount of responses, but it depends on what exactly I mean by that.

What I am asking is: Is your station obsessed with running only one type of promotion? For example: only Cue To Call promotions? Online promotions? Random Prize Draw or simple question and answer promotions?

If so… Why?

Is it because your promotion style is what you have always done, you will have the mechanics locked down and listeners know exactly what to do to win. Why break it when it works? Right?

But… There are so many other types of options out there to do – and the majority are not that much harder to implement. You will get different listeners winning and entering promotions and increase your audience share too!

Off the top of my head here are 15 other ideas:

  1. Use your station app
  2. Endurance promotion
  3. Entry with purchase
  4. Interactive
  5. Location based
  6. Number of word or less
  7. Online entry
  8. Registration
  9. Send in
  10. Social Media
  11. Survey
  12. Voting
  13. Cue To Call
  14. Question and Answer
  15. Random Draw

Also, has you, or anyone else ever monitored the response of your promotions? Do you know what is popular, and what isn’t for your station? For example – do free tickets to horror movies always bomb, but free tickets to family friendly films always fly out the door? And does it matter what time of the year you run a free ticket giveaway – eg: horror films at Halloween make listeners scream, but at no other time?

Stretch your next promotion into new territory and try something different – listeners love a change and you will gain more insight into where your audience is now when you try something different.
