Christmas Radio Promotions and Competitions

Promotions: We are starting to think Christmas Promos

Posted on 6 September 20228 November 2022 By earlp

Christmas promo’s? At this time of year? YUP!

It’s time to get the old thinking cap on and do a brainstorm of ideas,
here is 17 simple ideas for you to consider for your station:

REMEMBER: If you are asking for photos and social media shared images – don’t forget to use Google Reverse Image search to check the photo is original, as photos are often ‘borrowed’ to cheat in this type of competitions.

“Own The Grinch” pick one song – and when we play it – be the <NUMBER> caller to go in the draw to win the Grinch’s Haul. OR… play the song only once (Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’) and only once – if they call, they win!

“<STATION NAME> rock’s your sock” win a full Christmas stocking full of gear, gadgets and great times!

“Daily Advent Calendar” with a different prize being given away in one shift only, every day in December.

“The REAL 12 Days Of Christmas” this promo starts on Christmas Day (and continues LONG after other Christmas promos have finished) this is bound to grab listeners attention.

“Show Us Your Christmas Spirit” share on social media a theme for the day to win a prize. EG: “Today is your worst Christmas Jumper”, “Let’s see the WORST wrapping of a present you have EVER done”

“Christmas Quiz” a simple ‘call now’ situation with a Christmas quiz theme that listeners have to answer to win or go in the draw to win.

“Santa Colour In” the station is asking kids to colour in a station themed picture – prizes given for the best in each age group.

“Letter To Santa” ask kids to write a letter to Santa that needs to be dropped off at a location – the letters go into a barrel and drawn to win a prize.

“Our Best Family Christmas Recipe” a classic and one that suits an older demographic station – but you might be surprised by some of the entrants from a younger music station – Ask for the recipe and a photo AND don’t forget to check for cheats using the Google Image Search.

Alternate version of the recipe competition – after Christmas ask for the best “leftover recipes” to win a prize.

“Christmas Tree Photo” ask listeners to send in photo’s or tag on social media their photos and don’t forget to check for cheats using the Google Image Search.

Quiz on old toys “Last Christmas Quiz” is based on old toys to suit your stations demographic – “do you remember an old toy which had multi-coloured buttons and played music that you had to copy?” (Simon)

Invite listeners before December to vote on what should be the First Christmas Song you play – or the song they want to hear least, or any version or variety on this theme.

“Which Tradition Could We Do Without” is a poll or question that can lead to all types of fun on the air with people nominating what they think is the worst tradition, then voting on it – then draw a random listener from the vote – and the person who nominated it – to win a prize!

“Christmas Carollers” this one takes a LOT of organisation – invite local schools and community choirs to come into the station and record a carol – play them on-air and ask listeners to vote for their favourite one. The winner is the group with the most votes.

“Spread The Joy” ask listeners to drop off new toys to a location and then before Christmas the station and a local charity drop off toys to kids in need in the area.

“Reindeer Races” a pre-recorded bit/commentary about a reindeer race – 2 callers get to pick between the 2 reindeer racing today and the winner of the race gets the prize.
