I have to say I was very, very eager to read this months issue of Radio Ink (that’s the October 10, 2022 issue), and that’s due to the cover story with Bernie Weiss.
And you will see why in a bit.

This issues Publishers Beat by Deborah Parentri and Roy H Williams (The Wizard of Ads) column concentrates on the past and the future and they nail it. 2 top articles right of the bat – this is why I love Radio Ink (and no I don’t get paid to say that!) From relating leadership of one style to the future of writing for radio. Love your work Roy!
Next some happy snaps from the Radio Masters Sales Summit – and I promise myself that one year.. hopefully soon… I will get there for this as it looks like an amazing time was had by all at the summit.
Next Cathy Atkins and Alec Drake’s 2 articles on “5 Ways To Guarantee You’ll Close Every Sale” and the “Ten Steps To The Best Sales Team” should be required reading – seriously good reads.
I especially believe in the 4th way from Cathy’s article – FOLLOW UP with clients – I too am totally amazed that more people don’t do it – I wonder why?
Next there is the feature on Bernie Weiss – president of I-Heart Media New York – as he has put out a new book – which I now have on order and am waiting for it to arrive and review – called “ACE IT! How Sales Champions Win New Business” (Click for the link to Amazon) – perfect for radio sales – and I know of very few books which just focus on radio – so it should be a great read.
The article itself was really informative, and was an interesting story from start to finish – from Europe to America. I especially found Weiss’ answers about relationship building spot on – and worth drilling down on – I especially like the quote “once the contract is signed, the salesperson’s anxiety ends and the customer’s anxiety begins”… so, so true.
And… last but not least – we have the usual ‘The Best Managers In Radio” feature which is an interesting read – but… (and I have to say this again) – Come on Ed Ryan at Radio Ink – let’s see the ‘The Best Copywriters In Radio’
A great issue and I can’t wait to follow it up with a review of Bernie Weiss’ book when it arrives.
