ON-AIR: Topics To Ruin Your Week

Posted on 20 October 20228 November 2022 By earlp

I was recently asked by someone (who I mentor) about show prep, for their pre-recorded show… “What can I talk about that’s not current events and news related?”

It was their first week in the job (straight out of college) and they were trying to cast around for ideas of talk topics.

We ran through your normal list of subjects, topics, sources and places to find inspiration – but this person really wanted something different – something that made them have more of a connection with their listening public.

So together we went on a bit of a trawl through the old internet and one of the sites we dug up – was a goldmine and suited this jock and their sense of humour… perfectly – I asked them it it was okay if I shared it with you dear reader, and they agreed, providing I didn’t say where they were broadcasting from, so I won’t.

The website is: “Ruin My Week” a site that takes comments and subjects from reddit and puts them together with graphics and more – and you can find the site here: RUIN MY WEEK

The post we hit on when we were searching was on the topic of people, and… ‘The Normal things that scare them‘ and its an interesting read – and a great topic to talk about this time of year (near Halloween).

It was the perfect jump off point for them – and since we found the site, they have used it many times.

They then started to plan their show and what they were going to talk about and when – they were using the prep sheet from the free resources section of this site – Show Prep Sheet – which is the bare basics sheet for planning an on-air shift – GET IT HERE for free – no sign up, no emails, nothing.

So I hope that “Ruin My Week” becomes a useful site for you too – dear reader – now I am off to shower and not close my eyes (Read the post on the Ruin My Week site and you will see why!).
