A smaller selection than normal this weekend, as not much was circulating around the old interwebs…
RADIO IN GENERAL:
I am a big fan of Alan Cross and his website A Journal of Musical Things – that’s why this post was an interesting read… What’s the state and future of radio today? I have some thoughts…. And the less said about the tired schtick of most commercial radio’s on-air talent and their plastic DJ Service conversation, the better.
COMMUNITY RADIO NEWS:
I have a soft spot for Community Radio (its where I got my start on-air) so when I read on Australian Rural & Regional News sit about… Local radio making waves – Denmark FM has been named as a finalist in four national community radio awards. I had to let you know.

These Ads from BBDO Bangkok and Roojai Online Insurance Will Save You – Literally. Via lbbonline.com
Its an interesting idea from an agency with their night-time radio ad designed to save drivers from turning drowsy by keeping them awake. It would be great to see local advertisers get behind this idea too and spin it towards large local businesses.
ON-AIR:
Radio host Erin Molan collapses on air with fear during spider segment – New York Post – About an Australian radio show descended into chaos during a segment about arachnophobia on Wednesday, when one of the presenters collapsed… Interesting radio – but not great in my opinion.
Radio Show Host Agrees To Pay $400,000 Over Charges Of Misleading Seniors – Financial Advisor Magazine – Springer promoted himself on his radio show, “Smart Money with Keith Springer” by saying he was sought out for the show because of his financial expertise when in fact he paid for the show to be broadcast in the Sacramento area, the SEC complaint said. WOW!
SALES:
TALKERS Magazine post on: How Do You Handle Mistakes? was an interesting read – so much so that I passed it onto our sales team… When was the last time you “fixed” a copy, billing, on-air schedule, production or personality read issue four times, never sharing any negativity with your client or bringing your client into the “please change this” zone?
Australian Metro commercial radio ad revenue up 18% in September – AdNews – “Commercial radio advertising has real and sustained momentum which has seen a strong recovery back to pre-pandemic levels of revenue…”
