Promos: Misguided Radio Competitions & Promotions

Posted on 6 December 20229 December 2022 By earlp

I didn’t know that there were so many of these out there until I started to look… but OMG we have got to be careful of radio promotions and competitions that could go south!

Check out the 10 INSANELY MISGUIDED RADIO COMPETITIONS on the Listverse site
From drinking urine for Mötley Crüe Tickets to Winning a Divorce – Not every promo can be a winner.

Jacobs Media Strategies talks about A Radio Contest Gone Wrong – A Cautionary Tale and shows how bad things can go when someone stuffs up.

CPR covers the WORST RADIO PROMOTION EVER – and a blimp that never was.

Triple M in Perth in 2011 gave away, what I consider to be the worst prize (and the worst bit of radio I have heard) Triple M’s Basil, Xav and Jenna give away worst Prize ever on Perth radio – Via PERTH NOW

And then there is the promo that the documentary BILLBOARD BOYS was about – details about the competition are HERE – and here is a promo for the doco…

There’s the classic old WKRP in Cincinnati ‘Tukey Drop’ episode – which was actually based on a real promotion done by a radio station (many people do claim it was their station, in different parts of America, so who knows?)

There were a lot of repeats on various websites of some or one of each of these but they really serve as a warning to do due diligence, and test your idea before you go ahead with any promotion.
