Backing up your computer, ALL files (including software), and backing up your external back-up drives is very, very important!!!
Yes we had a rotten January here at radiocopywriters.com as not only did my computer fail, but so did the external hard drive back-up and the back-up of that back-up.
How did this happen?
I am sure you don’t want to know – but the lesson is that you should never, ever, trying to save a file (or work on your computer) during a thunderstorm.
AND that you should always check your back-ups to make sure that they are backing up and are usable back-ups and not copies of corrupt sectors of your disk (true story!)
So, luckily I had kept thumb drive back-ups of the books that I am working on, and these are the ONLY files that actually work – so I am in the process of writing and catching up with all the blog posts I had written down on pen and paper for you.
So, the long story short, and 3 takeaways from this adventure is:
- Yes we are back-up and running.
- I am backing up now to the ‘cloud’ and going to a father, son, grandfather style back-up system (3 copies should be enough of a back-up – 4 if you count the cloud)
- All posts will start again on Monday.
There you go… Lesson learned, and we start again on MONDAY!
