THE INDUSTRY:
Rick Hutzell wrote an amazing piece that should be read by EVERYONE in radio, no matter where you are in the world – he pulls no punches and it is a top notch post in the Baltimore Banner. Read it HERE – titled Radio is dead in Annapolis. Was anyone listening, anyway? Will you agree or disagree??
SALES:
Hawai’i Public Radio have done an interesting story on their website about: Local hobby stores hold on to pandemic gains. This could be converted to an opportunity if you have any hobby shops in your area who havent advertised before. One shop is Other Realms in O’ahu, which celebrated 35 years of business in December, with the added bonus that sales are up 15% now from before the pandemic.
Radio Ink’s site had an interesting read from Loyd Ford about Better Sales – its a short post but one which has some impact – I highly suggest you take a minute and read it.
Inside Radio (US) site ran a story on a Mattress Firm’s Spring Back Into Radios Top 10 Advertisers – apart from the terrible not-puny headline – its an interesting story for those of us with bedroom furnishing clients.
PROMOTIONS:
Bigfoot99 in Saratoga Wyoming, talked about a HUGE promo of theirs on their site – the 307 GoFast On Ice competition – it’s an interesting read and is getting bigger every time they run it. The audio grabs are a blast to listen to, too.
The classic Kiss The Car competition is BACK! – And 97.3 KIIS in Brisbane Australia started the comp on Valentine’s Day – read the story via Radio Toady – HERE
The Magic City Grill Fest is a brilliant promotion – a cook off with a difference – read the full story on The Mix WKLM 95.9 site
I absolutely love the name for this business – VIOLINS & SOUL – the story is via the Violin Channel – and covers the behind the scenes action at Violins & Soul Salon Music Violin Competition at the Amadeus Festival in Vienna.
An interesting promo from VIRGIN RADIO – live rent free for a year with $25,000 to pay your rent or mortgage for a year up for grabs.
Innovation is always a good thing – and Alaskan KINY RADIO 800/94.9 are promoting the Fairbanks Alaska annual Arctic Innovation Competition is accepting entries for the chance to win cash prizes of up to $15,000. Where The University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Business and Security Management sponsors the competition, which presents cash awards for the best inventions and business ideas. Great idea!
ON-AIR
A Boston radio host has been suspended for insensitive comments on-air – requiring sensitivity training. These comments where ignorant and out of touch and in my opinion, Beasley Media should have acted faster.
