Radio Copywriters Not Breaking News

RCNews: Sunday 12th March, 2023

ON-AIR:

AI is now DJing radio stations according to the FREETHINK website – scarry and sad and so many problems, so so many ahead for the industry if this trend continues.

KCBX’s website shares the story of local radio icon (and 91 year old) Jim Williams as he reflects on decades of broadcasting… “Try all kinds of things”

PROMOTIONS:

Another great promo idea from WILL SHORTZ which is this weeks on-air challenge: Today’s puzzle is called “Reversible Words” which are two compound words and could be reversed in order – very good puzzle from 89.1 KUAR.

What do you do when a jock takes their popular promotion/competition with them when they leave – try to rebrand it? That’s not good enough for the listeners of BBC RADIO 2 – who are now calling the competition POUNDLAND POPMASTER

This is becoming more of a problem all around the world – fake FACEBOOK competitions that are based around radio stations – using station imagery and fake accounts – Jersey Police issue the latest warning over this common scam.

COPY:

Here Are the Winners of the 2023 Writers Guild Awards – VULTURE website covers the awards – as does VARIETY MAGAZINE – it’s always interesting to see what pops up and gets an award at the WGA’s as, in my opinion, it shows where the industry is with new fresh material.

SALES:

Radio Ink covers THE HIDDEN SECRET OF PROSPECTING – something that Loyd Ford covers very, very well.

Inside Radio asks the question… why is there such a big gap between radio digital sales and radio sales?

HIGHLIGHT ON A COPYWRITERS WEBSITE:
This is a new idea (the same rules apply here as to the rest of the site – I recieve no payment, no endorsement or anything at all for recommending this site or any of the magazines, books, or websites that I talk about here) – I want to highlight some radio copywriters from around the internet – today I suggest you take a look at CAROLINE GIBSON’s site – Caroline is a freelancer who does lots of different copywriting styles – including radio copy – and I was impressed with her website content. Check it out.
