All Radio:
A confusing story being promoted on Radio Info Australia was seen as a positive for the industry this week – I personally think they might have the wrong edge of the stick here – but read the story yourself and see if you would promote this as a positive thing for our industry? Story is HERE from BPR WORLD on Radio Info Australia
An interesting one that is very Australia focused – Coles Radio shake-up could give grocery giant $1b ad market boost – with the supermarket giant using Coles Radio in-store and being able to be picked up on DAB+ (HD radio) they are trying to figure out how to use geolocation or similar and have put the idea out to tender across Australia. The story to read is via the Australian Financial Review – and is by Sam Buckingham-Jones
Its interesting to see how other countries are going through the exact same thing, all across the world and I found an interesting article on a site called AFAQS! – It is more important to stay relevant as a brand, rather than medium: RED FM’s Nisha Narayanan – story by By Nisha Qureshi. Its a really good article and I really recommend everyone in radio to read it.
A Swiss radio station recently did an experiment on-air – interesting stuff – Experiment Puts AI Voices and Music on Radio in Switzerland – story via VOA (Science and Technology) and honestly I think it is an interesting thing for radio to be at the forefront of.
PROMOTIONS:
A great promotion from Calgary in Canada now – Want to conserve water? Buy a rain barrel – the CTV News site covered it (thanks to a short but sweet article from Stephen Hunt)- as did a radio station or two in Calgary. Its an interesting concept that could be tweaked to a full on radio promotion with one of the barrels containing a prize for a listener who buys one… just a thought!
A very interesting read about: What’s It Like To Score A Year (Or Lifetime) Supply Of Something? 15 Winners Share via the Inspire More and Beverly L. Jenkins. There’s a couple of radio winners included – but not enough details. I wanted to know how the win helped or hindered them – did it make their life easier – did the stations keep in contact after the win – that kind of thing – and it’s something that we should do as radio stations and keep on promoting a big win like this throughout the year.
Radio Ink had an interesting 5 Stupid-Easy, Fresh On-Air Games For Your Show – article by Jeff McHugh, although I seem to think that this one has come up before, especially some of the ideas, or maybe its just that I read too many sites with radio station promotion ideas? [edit: I was right – it was from Jeff’s archives – I knew I wasn’t going mad!]
SALES:
Loyd Ford at Radio Ink had a nice story that has quite a bit of relevance here today in radio – when Ronald Reagan talked about Radio Sales in 1984 – about being prepared – watch the video that’s linked in the story and it will show you how being prepared for a question that other people don’t want you to answer can be the best thing that can happen for you.
